Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, positive, and student-centered individual to serve as the Junior Varsity Football Head Coach. The successful candidate will work closely with the Varsity Football Head Coach and Athletic Department to develop student-athletes both on and off the field while promoting sportsmanship, character, teamwork, and academic success.
The Junior Varsity Football Head Coach is responsible for the overall supervision, instruction, and development of the JV football program and its student athletes. The coach will support the district's mission and values while maintaining compliance with district policies, league regulations, and the requirements of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, and supervise all JV football practices and contests.
- Teach fundamental football skills, strategies, and sportsmanship.
- Assist in the implementation of the overall football program philosophy established by the Varsity Head Coach.
- Promote character, leadership, discipline, teamwork, and respect among student-athletes.
- Ensure a safe environment for all participants.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress and encourage academic achievement.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, transportation, and team activities.
- Maintain effective communication with athletes, parents, administration, and coaching staff.
- Assist with equipment inventory, distribution, collection, and maintenance.
- Enforce district, conference, and MHSAA rules and regulations.
- Attend required coaches' meetings, professional development opportunities, and athletic department functions.
- Work collaboratively with middle school and varsity coaching staffs to ensure program continuity.
- Always model positive behavior and professionalism.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Varsity Football Coach
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge of football fundamentals, techniques, and strategies.
- Previous coaching experience and/or successful participation in football programs.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Ability to successfully complete district background checks and employment requirements.
- Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain prior to the season.
- Completion of all MHSAA-required coaching rules meetings and trainings.
- Compliance with Michigan's required concussion awareness training for coaches.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to demonstrate athletic skills and drills.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to travel with teams to away contests.
